Your consumers are totally different what you think of them. A mediocre solution is a great product for a local province, and your great product made for a global impact fails here. In India this is going to work for very long : 'why don't we create something like this for us' , 'us' is targeting a local tribe. Anyways a solution is a solution, however if there is only one then people would not have any option
I am writing this small note from a town, a leading cloth production industrial area in India : Balotra. People are crazy for internet here, but this internet is not the same as you are thinking. For them having a facebook profile is an achievement. Son creates a profile for his dad and lists him as his father.A few are on twitter. Here they have cyber cafes where 'orkut' and 'facebook' are a part of some private internet teaching syllabus.
I get to know about one mediocre site that is offering here each firm 'to get an identity on internet'. I procured there brochure and this told me that they are charging 500 INR for signing up. Their business model is working because people don't know about present solutions or may be this is a localized approach, this is for them and by them.
But still they don't have too much to do with internet because they are a stable part of distributing channel (in terms of production), fixed pattern of production, fixed states from where the raw material is brought, fixed consignees .. fix way of selling. Can internet change their way of trading cloths ?
