Hello Friends !
This is Paras Kuhad. I was a student in the same college you are studying and I recently completed my college this year (2010). I am happy that I have been invited to contribute some lines in this article category. I am just making sure that I am not writing just for the sake of some formal lines from my side, I am doing because I have something to tell you.
My college life has been a normal one from a student's prospectus but when you are asked to say something to people you become special. When you will be completing ( yes it will happen ) college, a cliche you will be listening to is : "Your college life is your golden period. Do best and enjoy it. And of course a so called responsibility that you confront just after the college is a big monster called : owning a offer letter for a job in your hand.
You will be told that your final year is the time when you must enjoy like hell because after that you are going to do some serious and really responsible thing, that will jerk your mind and you will not be able to think about living a life. And suddenly you make your mind and come to a point : I will enjoy my life when I will be having enough money or I will be near about consummating my tasks in my list or after doing some certain thing that makes my surrounding happy. My dear friends that thing is never going to happen, just start doing it today
I remember the day when I was in same jeopardy. Everybody has his/her mindset and this mindset is often ruled by certain constraints. These constraints are governed by limits and for your strange these limits are not your own, these limits are defined by your books on your desk, some caught ideas in air, some 'donts' from your parents, restrictions given by our own social structure (Of course they exist for our moral safety ). Simply just ask one question to yourself if you are avoiding a chance and something to happen : Is it my own limit. I can bet that most of the time you would see an another aspect of the thing, you will realize that your capability is not that limited what you think about, it is only driven my your own mindset, or by your desire of something, or by your own attitude towards solving piercing problems. Look behind , what you have learned till today, has only been possible because you tried to solve some problems. Your faculty was not ready to let you some certain task and you hacked the thing and made your own way. Has this been taught to you, nah .. you discovered and made your own approach.
Often we think, I think and suppose that I cant do some certain tasks because I am not aware of that or that is out of my limits. This is an excuse because I haven't yet discovered any desire to do that. Start desiring :)
The day when you can enjoy even you don't have a single penny in your hand, the day when you can make things happen even when you don't see a single sign of some help, the day when you can relish your own creation is only the day, the time which is going on right now. Just think about each second, it is never gonna come back.
So erase all these mindset stuffs and try to put yourself in your own domain of problems and enjoy while you are solving them.
I have something more, if you are interested :
[ 1 ] I remember the day when some friends interviewed Prof Vijay Shankar Vyas. I still remember a very good point : Let the real 'you' come out of yourself. Just be what you are, why you are going after something and obsessed with someone other. You are a revered person in your own circle, you are a hero for them. Just be a good friend, good son and a good affectionate person. Those who grab headlines are very few
[ 2 ] Sakshama has been a very strong point in my college life. Most of the capabilities and initial points that I have right now is due to sakshama. I coded in Drupal just for sakshama, we, some friends managed online things and network administration just for it. Why I am mentioning, because we didn't have skills to do all of them ( at least I didn't have that time ) but your dedication dominates your all capabilities. This may be a most effective source of teachings.
[ 3 ] Friends are very important. My college was my home just because of my friends and I can boast of my friends never considering what is there waiting for me in future. Your study is a separate thing but real friends are a life time investment. Pick up good ones from your circle, be the first one to initiate. By good I mean those who criticizes you at the right time not flattering all the time.
[ 4 ] Nobody and nothing is perfect. It is your perception how you accept things. College, friends, faculties and whole system is a just one milestone. If you can go long ahead, that way, where these milestones were located will be remembered and taken as an example.
[ 5 ] It is usual to find people who claim about not having proper resources. Mark my words when we entered this college we found nothing in our heads, I have seen so many things thriving in front of my eyes : my college, sakshama and my colleagues.
[ 6 ] Things look pretty in retrospection. You will be having a lots of example. But you feel attached to the current when you have nothing for trying and looking forward. Try exploring each permutation of probability, each chance which has some potential and college time is the best time for doing that.
[ 7 ] Often when you are busy in solving problems, you will be seen as a busy person always doing something. There are two categories : One who will be doing something they don't like all the time and regretting about this gone college time they had once in their hand. Second: Someone who squeezes that hard work in this initial period of your real life and later enjoy the work they really wanted to do and of course relish their wealth ( Wealth is not the money : Read : http://paulgraham.com/wealth.html )
[ 8 ] College is the place where you meet a variety of people. Variety of thoughts, and it is more important because, here it is very easy to interact with anyone you want. If a thing is being done by some smart ( decide on your own what is smart ) people, there is something interesting in that. You can also try that.
[ 9 ] We cannot learn anything just by reading and reading. Mark your target and decide your milestones and start working. Being a person of a helping nature also helps, my classmates weren't so geeks in our circle but we did well in labs because everybody was coming for discussion, this raised new confusions, topics and we tried to solve them ( Just for an example )
